Discovered 1798 by William Herschel.
In the times of early redshift and distance determinations, and the discovery
of the Local Group, this galaxy was suspeted by E.P. Hubble to be an outlying
member of the Local Group. It truned out later that at its distance of about
10 million light-years, it lies clearly beyond.
