Discovered by J. Ruprecht in 1961.
Classified as globular cluster candidate by Froebrich et.al. (2007).
Ruprecht 101 (or Ru 101, Rup 101) was discovered on photographic plates taken
at the Boyden Observatory, South Africa, and first cataloged as open clusters.
Ruprecht (1966) describes it as open cluster of
Trumpler class III3p.
Froebrich et.al. (2007) have included it
in their list of nine new globular cluster candidates.
