Discovered by Harlow Shapley.

This cluster candidate was discovered by Harlow Shapley and classified as a globular; it is listed as such by Helen Sawyer (1947) and Becvar. Actually, in this field of view, there are only some probably unrelated foreground stars and faint background galaxies; the DSS image implies that perhaps Shapley took suggestions of a remote cluster of galaxies as indications for a globular.
