Discovered by William Herschel on June 13, 1784.

Globular cluster NGC 6569 was discovered by William Herschel on June 13, 1784. He first took it for a faint nebula and cataloged it as H II.201. James Dunlop found it independently in the late 1820s and cataloged it as Dun 619.
