NGC 650-1 (M76)

Other NOAO image of NGC 650-1 (M76): This is a very typical sort of planetary nebula of the "Butterfly" shape variety. Many nebulae are thought to look like this, having 2 lobes (the wings) and a central dense disk. Higher resolution versions (300kb) are available in this orange coloring or in black and white.

Shape: This PN is also known as "the little dumbell" for its appearance

Distance: approx. 3,000 light years

Location: Perseus constellation

RA: 01 42 20 DEC: +51 34 32

Size: 0.7 light years across
