Discovered by Max Wolf.
This nebula was discovered by Max Wolf (AN 3130), and independently found by E.E. Barnard. As a radio source, it was recovered and cataloged under 3C 157, and D.A. Green's catalog lists it under SNR G189.1+3.0.
